Lisbon is gearing up for what is set to be the event of the year. Eurovision 2018 will take place on 12 May at the Altice Arena and there is already a Eurovision atmosphere in the city.
Little by little the Eurofans start to arrive… the different delegations of the participating countries are strolling through the streets of Lisbon. Singers and bands take photos with the Praça do Rossio in the background or sign autographs for those who ask for them. And in the evening the Castelo de Sao Jorge is dressed in a passionate red to announce that Eurovision is coming.
In addition, a lot of activities have been programmed and are already underway. In Praça do Comerço you’ll find the “Eurovisión Village”. For nine days, the atmosphere will be festive, with a daily artistic and musical programme ranging from DJ performances to classical music and street entertainment. A space created to be the “living room” for Eurovision lovers, i.e. the Eurofans’ paradise.
If Portugal, and Lisbon in particular, were already in fashion, with the Eurovision Song Contest, Lisbon will be projected worldwide. Hotel occupancy is almost at its limit, local accommodation is overflowing, and the entire catering and leisure industry in the city is gearing up for a very intense few days.
As for the stakes… there are many and variable… it seems that this year all eyes are on Israel. Her song Toy and her peculiar style of performing it make Netta one of the favourites. Estonia, Norway and the Czech Republic are close behind… and the big question we all ask ourselves is… What will happen to Your Song? At the beginning the bets were more optimistic with Amaia and Alfred… now however it looks like it’s not going to be so easy… Will they make it to the top 10? All this will be resolved very soon!
